Our Words Have Consequences!

You will have to live with the consequences of everything you say. What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.
Proverbs 18:20-21

When was the last time you said something you regretted the second the words left your mouth?  Have you ever said something hurtful to someone just to hurt them?  Have you ever said something you did not mean?

Now, let me ask you something, when a tank fires a round....can that round be unfired?  When we say something we wish we hadn't, can we unsay those words?
Have you ever wished you could have said something when you actually didn't?
Think of the last time you spoke words of caring and support at the right time.
Think of the last time you spoke words of gratitude and you received a smile in return.

That great theologian, George Carlin, said, "I love words!  The same words we use to hurt can also heal."  He has a point.  And here's today's point: When we speak, we must live with the consequences, good or bad.

Before speaking your mind, make sure to use your mind to filter your words. Choose your words wisely.

It's All In How You Look At It

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Colossians 3:2

Ever feel as though you were so overwhelmed that you were in a deep hole with no way out?  Ever wonder if there would ever be an end to your situation?

I am NOT and never have been very good at math.  I used to dread having to sit through classes which always seemed to take 10 times as long as the history classes (which I LOVED, by the way).  The fact of the matter is each class was 50 minutes, but my perspective of these classes made quite a difference.

When I was in college, one of the classes I took was Voice & Diction where we learned how to speak in public.  Here's a little fact: There are many people who would rather be run over by a steam roller rather than give a public speech.  One of the tricks I had heard regarding speaking in public was to picture your audience in their underwear......truth be told that destroyed my first speech because some of my audience looked rather funny in my mind sitting there in their unmentionables (please stop thinking about me in that state of undress).  However, I got a fantastic piece of advice from one of my professors.  He said, "First, only speak on subjects about which you are passionate.  Second, speak as if you were in the audience and say what you would want to hear.  Finally, be brief."

That single change in perspective changed how I dealt with public speaking.  And I can attest, as an Introvert, public speaking is a HUGE issue!

So, take this a step farther, when we focus on the things of God, we gain a different perspective and God's peace WILL take over.
