Everything? Really?

As I have said before, the Christian position is this: I may do anything, but everything is not useful. Yes, I may do anything but everything is not constructive.
1 Corinthians 10:23
I have a habit of turning on the television to watch a favorite show and then I just leave it on for background noise.  I do the same thing with the radio.  Here's the thing, during this background noise there will be things that come on which are not good for my mind.  So I have the choice to let my mind absorb everything thrown at it, or turn it off. We make the same decisions with our computer usage as well.  We make a decision to either limit our viewing or just absorb everything that comes into view.
Here's my point: Just because we CAN doesn't mean we SHOULD!

Choose Wisely

Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. For a person will reap what he sows.
Galatians 6:7

If you plant corn, what will grow?  If you hit a brick wall with your car, what will happen?  If you decide to spread a lie about someone, what will be the result?

Every decision we make....every....single....decision, has a good or bad consequence?  If I decide to have lunch with someone, chances are we will eventually discuss personal matters.  If I decide that I no longer want to actually do my job, but I still expect a paycheck, guess what will happen?  If we are rude to someone, chances are they will be rude in return.

Every decision we make has a consequence.   And the ultimate consequence will be the result of our true intention!  You can't fool God!

Our Words Have Consequences!

You will have to live with the consequences of everything you say. What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.
Proverbs 18:20-21

When was the last time you said something you regretted the second the words left your mouth?  Have you ever said something hurtful to someone just to hurt them?  Have you ever said something you did not mean?

Now, let me ask you something, when a tank fires a round....can that round be unfired?  When we say something we wish we hadn't, can we unsay those words?
Have you ever wished you could have said something when you actually didn't?
Think of the last time you spoke words of caring and support at the right time.
Think of the last time you spoke words of gratitude and you received a smile in return.

That great theologian, George Carlin, said, "I love words!  The same words we use to hurt can also heal."  He has a point.  And here's today's point: When we speak, we must live with the consequences, good or bad.

Before speaking your mind, make sure to use your mind to filter your words. Choose your words wisely.
