"It's Hard To Be Humble..."

The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Matthew 23:11-12

You've probably heard that old song "Oh Lord, It's Hard To Be Humble When You're Perfect In Every Way."  (You were probably singing it in your head.)  But ask yourself, why do we find it so difficult to actually BE humble?  Could it be that we just want to seem important so we find the need to tout our accomplishments, achievements, daily actions in order to receive the accolades of others?

When you hear the word "Humble" what comes to mind?  For many, being humble means you have to put yourself down. But that's not truly what it means.  Let me share with you the definition that makes the most sense to me. Humble: "a virtue which needs to be developed and entails being down to earth, honest and truthful. It is being grateful for the blessings and opportunities that Abba gives you and recognizing that your gifts, talents and accomplishments have Abba as their singular source."

Think about that for a moment...Being grateful! Recognizing that Abba alone is the reason we are able to do anything!  You see, we need to be careful to develop a humble spirit because Abba has a way of taking the proud down a notch or two.  Ask Saul. Abba took him all the way down to helpless before building him back up as Paul.

Again?

“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”
Luke 22:31-32

"I couldn't believe it! I failed Abba again.  I am SO weak that I disappoint Him over and over and I can't seem to get it right!"

If you could hear the conversation going on in my soul...more times than not, it would be this one.  You see, I have succumbed to seeing my life from the whispers of my deepest enemy. The one who would laugh when I fail and tell me that I am worthless.  Those whispers and hissings are very real, very hurtful, and very easy to buy into.

But...

I was reminded of something this morning...Scripture NEVER says we will ever be perfect this side of Heaven.  Scripture DOES tell us that Abba has paid the price for my very soul and, therefore, the whisperer proves, once again, to be the Father of Lies!

I am still learning, even at my white haired age, that when my soul is troubled RUN to Abba and lay everything out before Him. Show Him the wounds! Show Him the hurt we have been caused! Show Him the bruises we have inflicted on each other and ourselves with our anger and hatred! SHOW HIM EVERYTHING! And as He reminds us of His Love for us, He will remind us that He has taken care of everything.

Think about this: Every single thing Abba does is to remind us that we can always come to Him without fear, without shame, without hesitation and His love for us...can NEVER be taken away from us!

"Abba, I have failed again!"
"My child, show me. Let me heal that hurt. Let's walk together."
