Indestructible Love

Think about it... With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

I may have mentioned before, if not I'm mentioning it now, that one of my favorite theologians is a man named George Carlin.  Many of his observations I have used in sermons and studies.  One of his observations I want to use today is this: "Gazillions of dollars are spent in trying to recover the little black boxes from aircraft because they are indestructible.  Why don't they make the airplanes out of the stuff they use to make those indestructible boxes?"

Think about this:  God's love for us is more than just steady and unwavering....it is completely INDESTRUCTIBLE!  You see, we, as humans, will fail each other countless times.  We will hurt each other; use each other; toy with each other's feelings; destroy the heart of each other...and the painful list goes on.  Look around, we, as a species, are losing any sense of value for anything, even human life.  Yet, God's love for us remains firm, unwavering and indestructible.

Did you know, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do to make God love you any more than He already does?  Did you know, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do to make God love you any less?  God's love for us is permanent and indestructible!  We may turn our backs on Him, but He is still right with us loving us.

I love the last verse that so clearly defines the indestructibility of God's love: "absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us."  God's love is so indestructible that we are never outside of His hug...ever!
